These landscapes provide a unique environment for insects, bats, reptiles and birds and many of these species are exclusive to New Zealand - they are not found anywhere else in the world. 72% of our native birds and 81% of our native insects are unique to our country. If they’re gone from here, they’re gone from everywhere.
Introduced predators are one of the main threats to their survival. These predators are predominately; stoats, ferrets, weasels, rats and possums. Feral cats and hedgehogs are also a threat,
